The Good extremely comfortable, lightweight, decent design
The Bad expensive, mediocre sound quality, fragile construction
Your Review The Bose AE (around-ear) headphones have been around since 2006 and are still widely available in most electronics retailers. Aside from the in-ear headphones, these are the least expensive headphones branded with the Bose name.

Once you give up a blood sacrifice to the blister package, you will find the headphones, a cloth carrying cloth, 5' extension cable, and a 1/4" adapter for stereo plugs. These headphones are extremely comfortable. The thin headband is cloth and foam cover and the entire headphone is very light. The synthetic leather earpads are soft and comfortable for long durations of use; although prolong use might cause the ears the get a little warm. Because the headphones are so light and fit so well, you don't have to worry about them slipping off like with heavier sets. A catch to their light weight is that most of its parts are made of light plastic, which may be more susceptible to damage. The AE's are superaural, meaning they are designed to enclose your whole ear, providing at least some level of passive noise isolation. The combination of sliver and black are pretty standard but look nice anyway. The AE's are also easy to drive so most music players will give it enough juice for ample volume.

So the headphones are really comfortable; if the sound was impressive, these would be a great purchase. Unfortunately, the sound quality is only so-so and at this price point there are better options. The highs are a little shrill and fatiguing to listen to. Mids are not as defined as I would like, and the bass lacks energy. Another issue with the Bose around-ear headphones is that the sound stage is very small. Instrumentals, vocals and ambient sound all seem to be flat against the ear. Occasionally, the lack of sound stage will make music sound jumbled and more like noise than composition. The bottom line is they just don't make music enjoyable.

For a cheaper price, I would recommend these for their comfort alone. At its current price though, there are many options that offer better sound quality and build, your just going to miss out on the Bose name.
