The Good beautifully animated, likable characters, good message for kids, Vikings!
The Bad um...nothing comes to mind...
Your Review This movie is a lot of fun. I took my little cousin to see the movie hoping to entertain her, and came away immensely enjoying it myself. The movie is about a young Viking trying to live up to the expectations of his father and fit in with his peers. The plot is fairly simple, but one kids can easily relate to. Our hero, Hiccup, is different from the others and he recognizes it too. Hiccup tries to fit in but really can't help but be himself. The message is really positive; teaching kids to be compassionate and to embrace their own identity. There is definitely enough story here for parents to enjoy also with its underlying social commentary more subtle than in Wall-E.

The animating is done very well, as can be expected by Dreamworks animation studio. If you can, watch it in 3D since it really enhances some scenes (like flying on the back of a nightfury dragon); although the movie will be enjoyable in the regular format also. The scoring and soundtrack is very impressive, bringing to mind blockbusters like the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Combining the music and large scale scenes make for some epic moments. How to Train Your Dragon is smartly written fun for any age group. Go see this movie before it flies out of theaters, and see it again when it hits Bluray.
