This movie is like fan fiction: while its well intentioned, it lacks that professional polish you would expect from paying full price at the theater. The movie's plot is really too simple and predictable. I guess that's why every trailer for the movie just showed the audience getting freaked out in night vision, because showing clips of the movie will expose its lack of substance. I really wanted this movie to be frightening but found myself mentally making a list of all its ridiculous, unbelievable moments. This movie was really killed for me by one thing: hype. The marketing for this film really had me excited to see it. Reviews were mostly positive and its limited release added to its mysteriousness. After seeing the movie, I felt like i was duped and cheated out of a good horror movie. I think I am being a little to critical here, after all it is a very low budget film. How low? The movie's wiki page says the film cost $15,000 to make. The hand-cam way of filming worked well with the budget and atmosphere, even if it really made no sense. In fact, I can honestly say i liked the last 10-15 minutes of the movie. It is pretty impressive that this movie made over $100 million at the box office, and I am happy for the creators, but I kind of wish they didn't have my $10. |
